WHEN I was growing up, there would be occasional tests of the emergency broadcast system.
The national defense system would interrupt the television broadcast and the viewer would hear, “This is a test.” Ordinary programming was interrupted in order to do a test.
A trial is when the ordinary programming of life gets interrupted.
